Overview

Our Medical Records Supervisor is a qualified clerical person, responsible and accountable for the maintenance of health records. In this capacity, the supervisor organizes the medical record department and maintains a system of records concerning patient diagnosis, treatment, admissions, discharges and transfers related to daily patient changes. In addition, the position organizes duties for medical record clerks, provides coverage for all units, and interacts with the medical staff to provide care for the patient.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.

Experience:

  • One (1) or more years experience in an established medical record system preferred
  • MUST have previous medical records supervision experience.
  • Training in an accredited medical record program

Licenses/Certifications:

  • None required

Responsibilities

Ensures confidentiality of all medical records information and completes forms for release of information. Refers to Director of Nursing/ Health Services Administrator any requests of questionable natureEnsures all medical records filing is up to dateEstablish and maintain a sign-out system for tracking medical recordsReview record for completeness before filingEstablish and maintain a system for completing recordsAssist in review of all death records for proper completionTrain medical record staff and organize coverage for all unitsPerform duties of medical record staff as neededEvaluate medical record staff annuallyAudit infirmary charts for completenessProvide requested reports to the DON/HSA in a timely and accurate mannerPrepare files for NCCHC and ACAPrepare for facility/site auditsAttend meetings as requiredMust be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.Post orders, if applicable, per site contract.Perform other duties as assigned.
